Classroom Policies
Procedures
Every day, I will post a short warm-up assignment on the board. Students should quietly enter the room and immediately begin working on the day’s assignment. All work done for class should be kept in the appropriate section of your notebook. After our warm-up, I might check homework or start an activity or a lecture. All assignments should be completed neatly and carefully by the due date.
Expectations
I expect all students to adhere to Durham School of the Arts’ rules and policies. My classroom rules are as follows:
1. Respect each other, your teacher, and yourself.
2. Always do your best.
3. Be Prepared- Students will need to be mentally and physically ready for class each day.
4. Be Prompt- Students are expected to be in class, seated, and working when the bell rings.
5. No food or electronic devices are allowed in class.
If you choose to break a rule, there will be consequences. A first offense will result in a verbal warning. Second offenses will result in a student conference or after-school detention. Any further offenses will require a phone call home and the involvement of the administration. Because I care about each of you, I will not allow you to do anything that will interfere with your success or the success of any other student in this class.
Absences
If you miss class due to an excused absence, you will have five days to make up anything you missed. You are responsible for finding out about your assignments and asking for any materials you might need. Failure to make up missed work within five days will result in a lower grade for that assignment. It is in your best interest to attend class every day! If you need to make up a test, quiz, or a lab, it is your responsibility to come talk to me to schedule a time that will work for us both.
Tardies
If you miss class due to an unexcused tardy, you will have 24 hours to make up any work, including tests. Failure to make up missed work within 24 hours will result in a zero for that assignment. Please remember, school policy states that after three tardies, the student will be written up for after school detention.
Tutoring
I am available for tutoring most mornings from 8:30-9:05am or by appointment during lunch and after school. Keep in mind that this is not a time for me to re-teach entire topics. To get the most out of tutoring, please come prepared with specific problems or questions.
Materials
Every student must bring his or her notebook to class every day. This notebook should be a 1.5 or 2 inch three-ring binder with loose-leaf notebook paper and pockets. Students should have several blue or black pens and sharpened pencils. A calculator would be useful, as well.
